Trust Your Instincts, You're Not Crazy (LOL sometimes)

We have a female pit bull, name Sox. I'll call her big girl. We got her years ago from her owner. With the reputation of pit bulls I really didn't want my husband  to get her. She was in pretty bad conditions, and she wasn't a puppy.  I was worried about her being around our kids, who were then very young.  We got her back to health, and she turned out to be the sweetest and most beautiful dog to me. She was very well train and she loves the kids.

We decided to breed her , but chose to do an AI. (If you are not familiar with the term, it's where the stud, male dog, semen is shipped and a vet implants it into the female dog. The insemination was a success. It was a waiting game. We decided to do an ultra sound, and since our regular vet didn't offer it, we decided to take her to a vet office that did. They were very nice, and a very well known office. The vet came in, he was very professional. He set up the machine and began to scan her stomach. He began to try to convince us he saw a lot of puppies. I am looking at my husband like are we all not looking at the same screen, because I don't see anything. He requested that we bring her back in a week, so maybe the puppies will have formed much better so we can get a better visual on the screen. He told us there will not be a charge, so we agreed. When we got in our truck, I told my husband, I know I am not a professional, but I have studied this enough that I know he was either crazy or he don't know what he was talking about.

We went back the following week, but this time, my husband wasn't able to come, because he had to work.  It was the kids, Sox, and myself.  They called us right on to the back.(Looking back was it to bring us away from everyone else, not sure). After doing the scan again, he tried to convince me again that there were puppies in her stomach.

After he tried so hard to make me believe what he was telling, he asked to speak to me outside the room.  I assume the news was really bad. He told me, they need to do an emergency C-section because the puppies were dead. He went on to say Sox will die if he didn't perform the procedure, I and need to think about getting her spayed. I cried because I was upset. I told him I couldn't make any decisions without first speaking to my husband because this was his dog. I called my husband to inform him what the vet said. He told me to get his dog, and get out of the office.  I did just that.

As I drove home, I felt like instead of the vet being concerned,  he was trying to slick talk me like a used car salesman. My husband told me to have Sox ready, and we would take her to our primary vet for a 2nd opinion. As we patiently waited on him to get home, it seemed like it took forever. Since I had time to wait, I decided to do some research on the veterinarian office. On their site, I saw every breed of dogs except pit bulls.

We finally got to the doctor office, which they knew us very well. They took us straight to the back. We waited in the patient room, as he did the x-ray. He came back in, and said there are no signs of any puppies there or ever being there. I was very upset. He said who ever told you that lied to you all. I told my husband, that I knew I didn't see anything on the screen. The main thing was I knew deep down, that they guy was full of lies. There is nothing wrong with getting a 2nd opinion.
