In society black women’s and girls’ bodies and beauty have been rejected are deemed ugly.  With so many African American females bleaching their skin because of both colorism and racism, it's heartbreaking. It’s often that they don’t see women/girls in the media that don’t look like them.

Many black girls grow up feeling inferior because of what most of the world has portrayed what beauty is. Self-hate among black women is an epidemic. Young girls quickly learn how society tries to place them by the color of their skin tone.

Dear Black Girl,

Be you and even when the world or the people around you does not celebrate your legacy or cultural identity don’t allow it to alter your self- worth. You are beautiful and valuable even when the people turn a blind eye to your uniqueness.

There will be times when you walk-in the room and people will see skin color first. Walk in with your head held high. You are amazing and gorgeous just the way you are. Embrace your physical features no matter what social media, movies, internet, or anyone tells you.   You should feel beautiful in your skin. Make your own box, you don’t have to fall prey to being just in a category.  You don’t have to allow perceived judgement because of self-expression, and individuality. It’s important to accept yourself for who you are. You don’t have to have straight hair, a small nose, or look like anyone else, you are perfect exactly the way God made you. Always be confident and celebrate your differences.
