Please share with my readers a little about yourself.

My name is Jennifer Volcy. I am a visual artist from Toronto, Canada. However, I am currently based in Southern California. I specialize in oil and acrylic portraiture. When I’m not painting, I’m busy being an attorney.

Tell me what inspired you to start doing art?

·         I have loved art my entire life. It was always my favorite class in school because I loved creating things. However, I started painting a lot more during law school. I found that because law school could be so rigid, I needed a creative outlet to balance everything else out.

How long have you been painting?

·         Since childhood. However, I started sharing my work publicly and selling my work around 2015.

In your opinion, what was the hardest part of putting your artwork out there?

·         Sometimes it can be a little nerve wracking because you never know how someone will react to your work. When you put yourself out there, you have to be prepared for both praise and critique. It comes with the territory. Even though I know that, it can still be a scary thing at times. However, it does not stop me from putting out work.

What advice would you give to an upcoming artist?

·         Just keep working on your craft. When I look back at work that I was creating in 2015, I am always shocked at how far my technical abilities have come. I think it’s important to stay true to yourself and never stop putting the work in.

What are you hoping people gain from purchasing and seeing your artwork?

·         Art is so subjective. I hope people take something positive from my work. However, I think each individual piece speaks to a person differently and that’s one of the things I love about art.

Do you have an upcoming project coming out?

·         I do have a cool collaboration that I’ll be working on in the coming months- however, I cannot share the details just yet.

How can some of your pieces be purchased?

·         My pieces can be purchased via my website. There is a contact form where potential buyers can inquire about a specific piece.
