When parents show up, it makes a difference. Their presence—whether at a game, recital, or everyday moments—reinforces confidence, strengthens connections, and builds lasting memories. Children thrive when they feel seen and supported, and every time a parent is there, it sends the powerful message: ‘You matter.’ Showing up isn’t just about attendance; it’s about being present in a way that shapes a child’s world."
Children today are growing up in a world that presents new challenges, and when parents show up, it makes a difference. Their presence isn’t just about support—it’s about safety, advocacy, and ensuring their children are treated fairly. Whether standing up against bullying adults or unsportsmanlike behavior from players, parents play a crucial role in protecting and guiding their kids. Being there means more than just watching—it means speaking up, stepping in when needed, and showing their children, they are never alone in facing difficult moments.
As a mother, I have witnessed the heartbreaking side of a sport my child loves—the disappointment, the unfair treatment, and the challenges that no parent should have to face. Despite my desire to remain composed, I had to stand up for my son when dealing with a school that failed to support him, and a governing body for interscholastic athletics in Alabama that was dishonest, hired unprofessional and biased referees, and allowed injustice to unfold. The experience was so disheartening that it would make any parent consider pulling their child from the sport they love."
With my faith in God, I’ve learned that sometimes praying about a situation is better than reacting, even when the behavior truly deserves a response. I remind myself to strive to hold a certain standard, to lead with grace rather than frustration. However, when there are no other options, being present to step in and step up becomes necessary—to protect, to advocate, and to stand for what is right.
I have witnessed the fight and resilience in my son—his unwavering determination to push forward even when others lacked the willpower in crucial moments. I have seen him grow, stay positive, and persevere through years of challenges, despite the odds being stacked against him time and time again. Through my journey as a mother, God has taught me valuable lessons in both of my children. One child, who once struggled with a speech delay, is now thriving in college with a full-ride scholarship for communication. And my son, who never gave up on the sport he loves, despite obstacles that would have caused many to walk away, continues to inspire me with his dedication."
Despite the countless practices, the long travels, the intense training, and all the money spent—one day, those will be the things that don’t matter. What will last are the memories, the lessons, and the truth of what people tried to do, the obstacles they placed, and the battles fought. The enemy may have tried to break the one fast boy with the orange cleats, but God revealed the ugliness of their actions and proved that no one can dictate the blessings He has for us. His plan is greater than any challenge, and His favor is undeniable.
"So yeah, whether your child plays one play, one second, or an entire game—showing up matters. My son has been playing soccer since he was four years old, and through all the trials, time, and disappointments, I never stopped showing up. As parents, we’ve all been children, and for those who never had the chance to feel that support—whether at a sports game, a dance recital, or a band concert—having someone there meant everything. Being present isn’t just about watching; it’s about showing them they are valued, seen, and never alone in their journey
