Scrolling through social media, I stumbled across a post about a seafood truck that would be parked near my neighborhood. Intrigued and craving something new, I decided to track it down. K&K Seafood, a food truck out of Greenville, Alabama, had set up in Eastchase right in front of Royal Furniture. The menu was packed: seafood, chicken, pasta, desserts, and more.
When I first approached the truck, I’ll admit—I was overwhelmed and thought the prices leaned a little high. But I came with a mission: to try something new. I ordered the catfish and shrimp plate, which came with fries and two pieces of bread for $25. I couldn’t walk away without dessert, so I added a slice of red velvet cake ($6) and a slice of pecan pie ($3).
In the excitement of checking out their menu and daily specials posted on the truck, I missed a small—but important—detail: they do apply a 3.5% fee for card transactions. It’s not a huge deal, but I wanted to mention it so you’re aware. If you prefer to avoid the extra charge, it might be worth asking if they accept cash. Otherwise, it’s good to know in case your receipt total looks a little higher than expected.
They handed me a buzzer and I waited in my car. In about eight minutes, my food was ready. I watched the owner try to close my container—so packed it barely shut. That’s always a good sign. I asked for tartar sauce before leaving, then hustled home while everything was still piping hot.
At home, I opened the box and immediately felt a nostalgic rush. That bread took me back to fish fry nights in the country with my family. Before reaching for the condiments, I tried the food as is—and wow. The seasoning was spot-on. It’s rare to find a food truck that nails flavor like this. The catfish fillet was full-sized (not the skimpy kind), and the shrimp were large and just as well seasoned. No bland popcorn shrimp here.
The fries? Everything I love—hot, crispy, and seasoned. The tartar sauce packet didn’t add much, but honestly, the seasoning carried everything beautifully without it.
Now, on to the desserts.
Starting with the red velvet cake—I initially thought the portion seemed thin for $6. Two slender slices stacked. But with one bite, my doubts faded. Moist, flavorful, layered with fresh pecans—it was clearly made with love. This was no boxed mix; it tasted like homemade goodness.
The pecan pie was another hit. Where I’m from, pecan pie is a holiday treat, so seeing it available was a delight. For $3, it was a steal. Rich, balanced, loaded with real pecans—not filler. I’d happily pay more for it, and I’m already craving another slice.
This isn’t a paid post or a sponsored ad—just honest appreciation. I’m giving K&K a solid 4.9/5 stars. It’s rare I offer such high praise, but they truly earned it. If you spot them in Montgomery, give them a try. And if you do, inbox me—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
