Cake Cravings Crushed: My First Visit to Chicken Salad Chick

Written By:Felecia Causey

I’d never been to Chicken Salad Chick, but after seeing countless videos hyping up their cakes, I was curious. The praise was loud, the visuals were tempting, and I found myself heading there right after they opened, ready to see what the fuss was about.

What I discovered is simple: everything isn’t for everyone, and sometimes, the internet really overhypes things.

If you enjoy cornbread with icing slapped on top, then this cake might be a homerun for you. But for me? It was a complete miss. The icing was delicious, I’ll give it that—but the cake itself was dry, gritty, and just unpleasant. It tasted like something old that had been refrosted and repackaged. I spent almost $15, and it felt like a total waste.

And I’m not alone. After sharing my experience, many others agreed—they had similar complaints about the texture and freshness. It’s always disappointing when something so hyped turns out to be underwhelming.

Maybe I just got a bad batch. Maybe others have had better luck. But I’m not willing to spend more money to find out. One disappointing slice was enough.

Sometimes viral food trends are worth chasing. Other times, they’re just well-edited illusions. This one, sadly, fell into the latter category for me.
