Restaurant Review: Dave’s Hot Chicken – Montgomery, A

Dave’s Hot Chicken is one of the newest additions to Montgomery’s food scene, and like many curious locals, I decided to give it a try. The reviews online were mixed—some people loved it, others weren’t impressed—so I went in with an open mind.

The wait time was my first hurdle. I waited about 20 to 30 minutes, which raised my expectations. With that kind of wait, I expected the food to be fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite deliver.

The chicken had a seasoned aroma, but the flavor didn’t match the smell. It lacked the boldness I was hoping for. The sauce reminded me of thousand island dressing with extra sugar, which didn’t work well with the chicken at all. The fries were okay, but not crispy, and the white bread served with the meal felt more like a paper towel soaking up grease than a thoughtful side.

And then there was the pickle—I honestly don’t know where it fits in. It felt like an afterthought, just tossed in without any real purpose or flavor contribution.

What really surprised me was the pricing. For the cost of the meal, I expected a drink to be included—but it wasn’t. That, combined with the underwhelming flavor, made the experience feel overpriced.

I’m not completely ruling them out. I may go back one day to try something different and hopefully have a better experience. But for now, it’s not a place I’ll be rushing back to anytime soon.
