My Honest Review of Choo Choo’s Burgers & BBQ Food Truck

I’ve been a little behind on my reviews these past few weeks thanks to the holidays, but I finally had the chance to catch Choo Choo’s Burgers and BBQ food truck at Baptist East Hospital in Montgomery. Someone had mentioned their burgers to me, so I made it a point to stop by. I couldn’t find their menu anywhere online, which I wasn’t a fan of because I like to know what I’m walking into, but I did know they served burgers. When I pulled up and saw there was no line, I was relieved. I arrived later than planned due to a few unexpected delays, but my first impression when I saw the truck was, “Okay, this pig logo is promising—this food might be amazing.”

I took a moment to look over the menu. They were offering a BBQ pork plate special with two sides for $15, so I went with baked beans and potato salad. I also ordered a cheeseburger all the way for $10 and a side of fries for $3. The wait time was under 12 minutes, which I consider fair for freshly made food.

Once I got my order, I hurried home to get out of the cold and enjoy everything while it was still hot. I started with the BBQ pork plate. The portion size was fair, and the meat itself was tender. The BBQ sauce, however, wasn’t my favorite—it tasted like a mix of BBQ sauce and ketchup to me. Someone else in the house tried it and actually liked it, so that part may come down to personal preference. The baked beans didn’t stand out; they tasted like they came straight from a can. The potato salad was different from anything I’ve had before. It wasn’t bad, just not something I would personally order again. It had bacon and some seasonings I couldn’t quite identify, but it was seasoned well.

Next was the hamburger. I’m not going to lie—when I see a burger wrapped in that classic sandwich paper inside a brown paper bag, I automatically think of those old‑school country burgers. I ordered it all the way, and I love a burger loaded with toppings. I’ll give them credit: they were not stingy with the toppings or condiments. The downside was that it became a little too sloppy for me, and the top bun was really soggy, which I’m not a fan of.

The fries were tossed loosely in the bag, which I didn’t notice until I got home. I would’ve preferred them in a box or container, but they were cooked well and seasoned nicely. Honestly, I just wanted more of them.

I later learned that they also have a restaurant in Letohatchee, Alabama, which was interesting to find out. As for my final verdict, the customer service was okay and the speed was great, but overall, I won’t be going back. That said, I still think everyone should try them at least once. It’s one of those spots you have to experience for yourself.

If you get a chance to visit, let me know what you think and how your experience compares to mine.
