I haven’t had time to try many new places lately. Life has been busy, and the food trucks I want to try never seeming to match up with my availability. But today, I decided to head downtown to Montgomery, which has become a hot spot for food trucks. Now, I’m not going to lie,
I really didn’t want to deal with the parking situation. Who wants to risk getting a ticket? I ended up having to walk a good distance, but I made it. LOL.
I picked up my chicken salad from one of my go‑to trucks before heading over to Fire Meats Wood. The gentleman at the window was very nice, and I appreciated that they had their menu and prices clearly posted online. A lot of food trucks don’t do that, so kudos to them.
I decided on the jumbo pulled pork sandwich with two sides: baked beans and potato salad.
The wait time was impressively fast less than six minutes. Honestly, it was one of the quickest foods‑truck services I’ve ever experienced. I went right at opening, and there was no line, so if you’re like me and don’t like waiting, I recommend getting there early. Everything came out hot and fresh.
Now for the food. The pulled pork sandwich came on a regular‑sized bun, but there was enough meat to make three sandwiches. The pork was moist, smoky, and had that delicious burnt‑edge flavor from the Boston butt. I almost wanted to say it needed a little more seasoning, but the BBQ sauce and freshness made up for it. And I really appreciated that he didn’t put pickles on my sandwich but instead placed them on the side. I don’t like them they make the bread soggy, and I don’t like the taste mixing in.
The baked beans were not your straight‑out‑the‑can beans. They had smoked meat, onions, and bell pepper mixed in. They were so good honestly better than Jim ‘N Nick’s, and lately their beans haven’t been hitting like they used to. The potato salad was also really good. It was at room temperature, just the way I like mine.
I would give this truck a 4.7 out of 5 stars. The only reason it’s not a full 5 is because the meal doesn’t come with a drink, but that’s pretty normal these days. And while I wished for just a touch more seasoning on the meat, the portion size, temperature, and BBQ sauce made up for it.
Would I go back? Absolutely. I’d love to try their tacos and BBQ nachos next. Yes, I definitely recommend them.
