I had finally caught up with the food truck Big Dawgs Wangs N Thangs, after several attempts. The schedule just never aligned. They posted that they would be set up at Home Depot and start selling at 12:00. When I arrived, they were running about ten minutes behind. There were a few people ahead of me, but the line moved pretty fast.
I decided to try their $10 wing meal special, which comes with four whole wings, one side, and a roll. I chose fries. I also grabbed an order of okra for $4 and their Bussin Berry Lemonade I think that’s what it’s called for another $4.
One thing I appreciated right away was the buzzer system. After you order, they hand you a buzzer, so you don’t have to stand in the heat or keep walking back to the window asking if your plate is ready. That alone earned them a star in my book. I ordered around 12:15 and got my food at 12:29. The owner told me it would take about 15 minutes, so I thought the timing was right on point.
Now, let me start with the good.
The lemonade was amazing. For $4, the cup was huge, and I loved that it had plenty of ice. Once I started drinking it, I couldn’t stop. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it tasted like some kind of candy, in the best way.
Next up, the okra. Okra is one of those items, like grits, that everybody thinks they can cook, but everybody cannot. These were cooked just right, exactly how my mama cooks hers. The okra was definitely a hit for me.
Now let’s talk about the chicken and fries plate. Before I get into flavor and temperature, I want to mention that I’m not sure if this is their regular size for whole wings, but these are the ones I received. (See photo below)
On to taste and temperature. The wings were warm, but not hot‑out‑the‑grease hot like I expected and wanted. They were a tad bit dry and a little hard. I will say they did have seasoning on them, and I’ll give them kudos for that since so many people seem to be afraid of seasoning. The fries weren’t crispy, and there wasn’t much of their famous dust on them, which I would’ve liked to see more of.
(PRICE)When I got to the window, the lady told me my total was $20. I’m not sure if they don’t offer change or if it’s their policy to round up to the nearest dollar. I didn’t see anything about that on their site or on the truck. So, you may want to have exact change and ask about fees before ordering.
