We had heard both good and bad reviews about Joe’s Again, but I always believe in trying places for myself because everyone’s experience is different. I will say the location felt a little iffy to me more on that later, but let’s get into the real reason I made the trip across town: the food.
We ordered the 3‑piece catfish dinner with okra and hushpuppies, Joe’s cheeseburger, 6‑piece mild lemon pepper wings with fries, a slice of lemon cake, and a slice of red velvet cake. Drumroll, please… the total came to $51.98. Was it worth it, or was it too much?
Starting with the catfish plate: for $18, I think it was fair. The filet pieces were great sizes, cooked to perfection, and wonderfully crispy. I just wish they had a touch more seasoning, but I would definitely order this plate again. The okra was good, not as crispy as I prefer, but fresh and hot, just needing a little extra salt. The hushpuppies were hot and tasty, though slightly undercooked on the inside. Still edible, just not perfect. And the white bread that came with the plate was fresh, which added a nice touch. I’d absolutely recommend this plate to my seafood lovers.
Now, the cheeseburger. Choosing a burger was hard because they had several I wanted to try, but I went with the regular cheeseburger, and it was a home run. Juicy, moist, and clearly made with real beef, not frozen patties. The seasoning was perfect, the burger was hot, and the cheese melted beautifully over the patty. The lettuce, tomato, and bun were fresh. This was a 10/10 for me.
The 6‑piece wings with fries were a solid choice. The wings were a good size without being fatty, hot, and coated in a tasty sauce. I do wish I had asked for extra sauce, if you’ve read my blog, you know I love my wings extra wet and dripping. They were evenly coated, just not to my personal preference. They were seasoned well and hot, but not crispy. That’s something I probably should’ve requested.
Would I go back? Yes, for the food. But the location was the downside. While waiting in the car for our order, we were approached by several people walking by. I’m not sure if that’s normal for the area since I’m not familiar with it, but it did make me uncomfortable. The good news is they also have a food truck, which might be a better option for some customers.
Be sure to check them out and let me know what you think. More on Joe’s Again soon.
