We had heard so much hype about Smashburger, so when I saw one during our trip to Destin, I knew I wanted to give them a try. When we walked in, the small restaurant was packed, so packed that I almost walked right back out. We waited a good while in a long line, and several people were still waiting on their food. The guy who took our order was very nice and helpful, so we went ahead and ordered the Classic Smash Burger, the Scorchin’ Hot Crispy Chicken Sandwich, French fries (which do not come with either sandwich), and an Oreo Cookies & Cream Shake. The total came to a whopping $41.93.
Was it worth the money? Was it worth the 30‑plus‑minute wait?
Classic Smash Burger
There was absolutely nothing special about this burger except the soft bun and the red onions. The meat had no seasoning, the lettuce felt wet, and the small tomatoes weren’t appealing. For $10.85, it simply wasn’t worth it.
This one was a thumbs‑down. The chicken tenders had a thick dry rub, but they were 0% hot. There was nothing crispy about them, and $13.40 felt extremely overpriced.
Crispy French Fries
At $5.60, that price is ridiculous. They were crispy, but they were cold and had no seasoning.
Oreo Cookies & Cream Shake
With the long wait and the heat, I didn’t even get a chance to take a photo. My son sipped it up quickly. He said it was smooth, but nothing different from any other milkshake. It came in a medium cup and cost $8.85, basically $9.
Even with the long line inside and the pickup crowd, after waiting over 30 minutes, I expected hot food. I’ll give them grace, maybe they were understaffed, but my experience was very disappointing, especially with such high hopes.
We recently got a Smashburger restaurant in Prattville, AL near us, but if it’s anything like my experience in Destin, I definitely wouldn’t waste my gas, time, or money.
