Dear Mom: You Got This!

What I know is there is no love that compares to a mother’s love for her child. You can hear someone describe the emotions and love you will feel, but there isn’t anything like the day you lay eyes upon him or her. There are many books out there that give you the idea of what a mom is supposed to be. There are articles from therapists and behavioral specialists that believe they have come up with all the answers and directions of being the best parent.  There is no clear road map on this journey of motherhood.

As we watch television of the perfect suburban moms who have it all together. There is no such thing as the perfect parent. Where are the books and the photos posted on social media of the mother crying because she’s exhausted or the only breaks she has is when she goes to use the bathroom, take a shower, or when the kids go to sleep? They don’t tell you how to embrace a broken hearted child from being hurt by a family member.  Where is the guide to surviving when financial times gets hard or the full instructions on teaching your child to deal with hatred, discrimination, and toxic family members.

The books can’t heal a broken mom's heart who still has to be strong for her kids. A mother withers through the storms for her kids even when she feels like she has nothing else to give.  The sleepless night, the continuous criticism from family/friends, and the insecurities of being the best mom you can be.  Elders will criticize you. People don't know your sacrifices and determination of raising your kids the best way you can.

You will sometimes fall on your knees to pray because it may become overwhelming, “but ma’am you got this”. Your kids will not see half of the things you go through, but they know of your unconditional love and the fight of giving to them even when you didn’t have much mentally and physically to give.  Look in the mirror and tell yourself, “ I got this”
