Interview Feature with Ka'Shina Perkins owner of YNOTU Fitness

Please tell my readers a little about yourself

I fulfill various roles – a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Additionally, I'm a dedicated Trainer. My passion for fitness stems from the incredible rewards it brings. As a straightforward individual, I value efficiency and reciprocate the same energy. I approach my work with diligence, avoiding complaints and expecting a readiness to work and handle business. My aim is to attract like-minded individuals to collaborate towards common goals.

Let's talk about your business. What made you start your business?

What propelled me to start my business? Life. As we age, growth should unfold during that metamorphosis process. I desired to venture out on my own to treat people with the respect and care they deserve, steering clear of the negative energy often found in workplaces lacking in empathy or customer service. Despite my lack of knowledge about business, I embarked on this journey, guided by hope and faith, trusting that I would find my footing where it aligned with a higher purpose. Leaving my well-paying job wasn't easy; obstacles and setbacks tested my resolve. Starting a business demands sacrifices, faith, and a belief in the right direction. It involves cultivating a mindset to navigate challenges, understanding that not everything will go as planned. Despite the hurdles, perseverance is crucial. In business, you encounter situations where things don't go your way, but rolling with the punches becomes essential. It's about biting your tongue, pushing through, and trusting that, in the end, God aligns everything according to his will and plan for my life – a belief I hold on to strongly!

Summer is almost here and so many want to lose that extra winter weight, but trying to find the right mind set. What advice do you have?

Summer is approaching, providing ample time to kickstart shedding those unwanted pounds, with a crucial emphasis on proper nutrition. To set yourself up for success, try planning your meals for a couple of days at a time, selecting nutritious options that you genuinely enjoy. While working on improving your nutrition, it's important not to go cold turkey on less healthy choices. Taking small, manageable steps is the key to achieving significant victories.

Avoid setting unrealistic goals with specific timeframes, as this can lead to a negative mindset if not achieved. Aim for a steady weight loss of 1.5 to 2 pounds per week. Consider taking progression photos when you start working out and continue every 4 to 6 weeks to track your visible progress. Remember, the scale may not always reflect your achievements – focus on inches lost instead. Stay patient with yourself and the process, keep going, and before you know it, you'll fall in love with the results. Stay off the scale, embrace the journey, and enjoy the transformation.

I know your food intake plays a big role on this new lifestyle journey.  Do you offer food prep services?

While I don't provide meal prep services, I'm here to guide you on what to eat and portion sizes. In fitness, consistent practice is crucial to staying on track, emphasizing cooking and preparing meals at home. It's akin to showing up at our job daily for a paycheck – prioritizing our health is equally vital to sustain our work routine or care for our families. Just as we can't expect another job if we stop showing up, our bodies are irreplaceable. It's a plain and simple reality: it's a matter of life or death. Ask yourself, are you important enough to prioritize your own well-being?
