Please tell my readers a little about yourself.

Thanks so much for this opportunity! My name is Thaddeus Hoffman, and I am originally from Tuskegee, AL. I think it is worth mentioning that I wear a few different hats in my professional life. I am the founder and owner of SibKin Family Apparel & More, LLC, lecturer and Student Success Mentor at Auburn University at Montgomery, mental health therapist with The Solace Group, and a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Each of the roles I’ve taken on reflects my deep passion for helping others grow, thrive, and become the best versions of themselves.

Why did you start your brand, SibKin Apparel?

That’s an excellent question! The inspiration stemmed from my own experiences growing up and not having a connection with much of my paternal family. Starting the business was an idea I wanted to share with one of my older brothers, who was an entrepreneur who didn’t mind taking risks and putting himself out there. I never got the chance to share my idea with him because he tragically passed away in a car accident. After his passing, I decided to honor his memory by using the idea of something that represented family. It inspired me to create a brand focused on bringing unity to people who value and uplift familial bonds every day.

What influences the design details in your collection?

Your questions are really prompting me to think deeply and self-reflect. Over the years, I have learned the importance of networking and have found that my purpose is to connect people. Through my multiple roles, my apparel embraces and celebrates my core values and the diverse range of people I interact with daily. All designs are made to be universally versatile, making them suitable for everyone. The goal is to create apparel that not only looks great but also carries a meaningful story and enhances the sense of belonging for those who wear it. Overall, my brand offers a variety of themed, celebration, and event-driven collections that mark special occasions, raise awareness, and celebrate important events throughout the year.

When you got started, what problems did you have?

Fortunately, I didn’t encounter many problems because I manage the business part-time, allowing me to execute everything exactly as I envisioned. Additionally, working on the brand serves as a therapeutic outlet for me, making the process both fulfilling and enjoyable. However, if I had to identify a challenge, it would be managing my finances and budgeting with my personal funds until the business became self-sustaining.

How do you want your customers to feel about your quality?

I want them to feel confident and delighted with the quality of apparel they purchase. I aim for them to feel that their investment and support are worthwhile and that they are wearing something that truly represents their values and the look they’re aiming for. We’re excited to offer an extensive range of color combinations and sizes, from newborn to 6XL, all while maintaining reasonable pricing. Our goal is for everyone to find the perfect fit, color, and design to match their personal style without breaking the bank.

If you could go back and give yourself advice, what would you say?

“It’s important to set clear boundaries and consistently adhere to them. Furthermore, don’t rely solely on expectations of support from others, even if you have gone above and beyond for them in the past. Instead, focus on building a solid foundation with a network that truly believes in your vision. Trust your own abilities and remain resilient. Sometimes the most valuable support comes from within and surprising sources.

What advice would you give an upcoming clothing brand owner out there?

Focus on what’s best for you! Clearly identify your target audience and understand their needs and preferences. Establish a price point that aligns with both your clothing brand’s values and your audience’s expectations. It is crucial to remain adaptable and responsive to your core principles. Building a brand is a journey that requires a lot of patience, time in research, stay committed to your goals, and continuously enhance your strategy to create something that resonates with your customers.

What is your life motto?

Empower others with the resources you have, and let genuine passion guide your path. Growing up with limited resources, I learned the value of giving my best despite challenges. It’s not about financial gain but about making a positive impact on others’ lives. Helping people with sincerity and dedication has always been my true motivation.
