So, I was hunting for a new spot to feature on my blog, and Bubbly Hen kept popping up – mixed reviews everywhere! Figured the only way to know for sure was to try it myself. Busy day, plus rain, so I opted for online pickup. Smart move? We'll see... The estimated pickup time was an hour, which was perfect for grabbing my son's suit from the tailor.
I got there ten minutes early, and... crickets! No hello, no nothing. People were waiting to be seated, the waitress totally ignored them (and me!). I stood there patiently, noticing a bag on the counter – hoping it wasn't mine! Finally, someone noticed me, and yep, it was my food. No idea how long it had been sitting there.
Since I live about five minutes away (depending on traffic!), I zoomed home. I ordered the jalapeño pimento cheese chicken sandwich (tomatoes on the side to prevent soggy bread!), fries, and their cinnamon sugar beignets with chocolate sauce. Sadly, I can't give you a full review of the sandwich and fries. The chicken breast was ROCK HARD! Seriously, I was worried about breaking a tooth. And the fries? Super greasy, soggy, and totally bland. Couldn't bring myself to eat them. Total bummer!
The beignets were pretty good – light and fluffy, but honestly, the chocolate sauce was a *little* too sweet for me. I was starving when I got there (hangry!), so I was ready to just write it off as a bad experience. But then I called and spoke to the manager, and he was super apologetic! He offered to make me a fresh chicken sandwich, which was really nice of him. I initially said yes, but then changed my mind – I just wasn't feeling it anymore. He was totally understanding and gave me a refund for the sandwich, which was more than fair. I told him to keep the money for the beignets, though – those were pretty good aside from the overly sweet sauce.
Overall, it wasn't the best experience, so I probably won't go back. I've heard good things from other people, so maybe I just had a bit of bad luck! Hope your dining experiences are better than mine!
