I had the opportunity to try some dessert places in Montgomery. Many were great but many didn't live up to the hype that many had bragged about. Some were new from the Eastchase Farmer's Market so I gave them a chance.
Shalom VDesignz Cupcake Bar Review
I recently had the chance to try Shalom VDesignz Cupcake Bar, and my kids and I were genuinely excited. We had a list of treats we wanted to try, but unfortunately, the selection was slim by the time we arrived. It was disappointing, but hey—sometimes that’s just how it goes.
Luckily, one item from our list was still available: the Italian Cream Cupcake. Priced at $6.00, my first thought was that it seemed a bit steep for a single cupcake. But once I saw it, I realized it wasn’t your average-sized treat. The presentation was beautiful—definitely Instagram-worthy—and it had a generous swirl of icing piled high.
We grabbed a spoon and dove in. The icing was clearly homemade, rich and creamy with just the right balance—not overly sweet, but full of flavor. It had a lovely texture thanks to the roasted coconut flakes and pecans mixed in. Honestly, I’d buy the icing alone to use on my own cakes and cupcakes.
The cake itself reminded us of banana bread in texture. While it wasn’t our favorite part, we didn’t dislike it either. It was dense and hearty, which might be perfect for some, just not quite our style.
Even though our visit didn’t go exactly as planned, I’d definitely give Shalom VDesignz another try. The quality and care in that one cupcake showed promise, and I’d love to explore more of what she has to offer next time.
Curious About Jozetti Cupcakes? Here’s What I Thought
I finally had the opportunity to try the famous Jozetti Cupcakes. They had just opened for the day, and since I happened to be on that side of town, I figured it was the perfect time to see what all the buzz was about. One of my former beauticians used to rave about them, so my curiosity was high.
Finding the shop was a bit tricky. If you’re not familiar with the area, you could blink and miss the building entirely. Once inside, I was greeted by the person behind the counter. She wasn’t particularly friendly or welcoming, which was a bit disappointing. There were only a few cupcake options available, so I kept it simple and chose two flavors—banana pudding and red velvet. At $5 each, they weren’t cheap, but they were slightly larger than a standard cupcake. My total came to $11 with tax.
Presentation-wise, they looked amazing. Let’s start with the banana pudding cupcake. I love banana pudding—it’s one of my all-time favorite desserts. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it in cupcake form. The cookie on top wasn’t crunchy, and the filling inside the cupcake just didn’t work for me. It missed the mark.
Will I try them again? Probably not. But I do regret not sampling more flavors, especially since I’ve heard so many great reviews from others. Maybe I just caught them on an off day. If you’ve had a different experience, I’d love to hear about it—drop me a message and let me know what you tried!
A Sweet Stop at Panaderia Pasteleri Mana' Bakery and Pastry
I came across Panaderia Pasteleri Mana' Bakery and Pastry on TikTok and was instantly intrigued. After doing a little shopping nearby, I realized I was close enough to drop by and finally give it a try. The shop is small and tucked away—if you’re not familiar with the area, you might miss it if you blink. But once inside, I was pleasantly surprised by the decor. It had a unique charm that made the space feel cozy and different from your typical bakery.
The owner greeted me warmly and let me know that not everything was out yet, which wasn’t a big deal—there were still plenty of options to choose from. I especially loved how the pastries were displayed in elegant china, adding a thoughtful touch to the presentation.
As I browsed, I wasn’t quite sure how to select my items. The owner explained that I could grab a tray, pick my pastries, and bring them to the register. I wasn’t too keen on using a tray, so I asked if I could use a bag instead, and he was more than happy to accommodate.
I ended up choosing two pastries, both topped with colorful sprinkles—perfect for my daughter, who’s a big fan of anything with sprinkles. The total came to just $5, which I thought was a great price considering the size and freshness of the treats.
Once home, we gave them a try. They were fresh, and the presentation was adorable. The sprinkles were a bit much for my taste, but I was able to remove some without disturbing the cream underneath. Despite that, I really enjoyed the experience and would love to go back to try more of their offerings—especially the breads and other sweets I didn’t get to sample this time.
I’d definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. It’s a different kind of bakery experience, and I’m looking forward to exploring more of what they have to offer.
While strolling through the Fresh Market at Eastchase, I came across Patt Brown Creations, a local vendor I’d seen mentioned before. With the summer heat in full swing, most cake vendors had their treats tucked away in coolers—but not this one. Her cupcakes were out on display, and although the icing had melted slightly, it wasn’t a dealbreaker. It still looked inviting enough to give it a try.
Overall, I enjoyed both cupcakes and appreciated the care that went into them. I’ll definitely be going back to try more of her flavors. Patt Brown Creations has a sweet charm, and I’m curious to see what other treats she has in store.
Fiery Fowl Banana Pudding
I decided to give Fiery Fowl another try, and this time I treated myself to a little extra—banana pudding alongside my meal. The sandwich was enjoyable, though the chicken was a bit harder than I remembered, and the potato wedges were unfortunately too greasy to finish. What really caught me off guard was the size of the banana pudding, especially considering the $5.00 price tag. It was much smaller than I expected. That said, the pudding itself was absolutely delicious. It had a unique twist that set it apart from the usual banana pudding, with a creamy texture and rich flavor that made it worth savoring. Still, I couldn’t help but feel it was slightly overpriced for the portion. Overall, it was a mixed experience, but the pudding definitely stood out as the highlight.
