A Small Shop with Big Donuts: My G & S Experience

I recently had the chance to finally try the hidden donut spot on Woodmere in Montgomery, AL called G & S Donuts. I’ve seen several videos about them, so when I happened to be on that side of town one morning, I decided it was the perfect time to stop by.

If you’re not familiar with the area, you will drive right past it if you’re not using GPS. It’s a very small shop, but one of the best features is the drive‑thru, which is perfect if you don’t feel like getting out. Inside, I loved the décor.

I also want to highlight the young lady working the front register. She was such a sweetheart and incredibly patient. Since it was my first time, I asked a lot of questions, and she gave great recommendations with a smile. She mentioned she attends Park Crossing High School, and if her parents happen to see this—you’re doing an amazing job. She was respectful, helpful, and kind, which is something you don’t always get these days. Kudos to her parents.

Now, let me say this before I dive into the food: If you’re on a low‑carb diet, go ahead and scroll past this post. These donuts are huge and full of temptation.

I tried a half‑dozen of their specialty donuts for $13, and they were massive. I got the Cinnamon Roll, Apple Fritter, and the Twist (cinnamon and glaze). Honestly, one donut could easily feed two or three people. I’m not going to compare them to Krispy Kreme, but they were good, fresh, and definitely more affordable.

I really wanted to try their lunch menu, but it was still hours away, so I grabbed a couple of breakfast items instead. I tried the sausage and cheese jalapeño kolache ($3.25). Yes, it had a lot of bread—more bread than sausage—but the bread was soft and I still enjoyed it.

.

I also tried the sausage, egg, and cheese taco ($2.80). It reminded me a little of the breakfast burritos from McDonald’s. Both items were premade and kept behind the counter, so if you’re expecting something cooked fresh on the spot, this may not be for you. But just like McDonald’s, they warm it up, and honestly, I ate every bit of it.

Would I try them again? Absolutely. I want to try more of their donuts and definitely want to go back for lunch.

If you give them a try, inbox me—I’d love to hear your thoughts.
