Is Buc-ee’s overrated and overpriced? That’s the question I found myself thinking about again during my latest visit. This wasn’t my first trip to the famous roadside mega‑stop, but as I watched people walking out with bags stuffed full of snacks, merch, and everything in between, I decided to be spontaneous and try a few new things.
We’ve all seen the social media videos where folks spend a small fortune inside what feels like a mini mall packed with Buc-ee’s branded items and food. My usual picks are simple, gummy candy, a fruit cup, and maybe a cold‑cut sandwich. But this time, I wanted to branch out and see if the hype was really worth it.
I grabbed six different items and spent a total of $35.55, which kept me under the budget I set for myself. That alone felt like a small victory.
The Turkey BBQ Sandwich was the first thing I tried, priced at $8.49. It was genuinely good, and I could tell it was fresh because they were wrapping them right as I grabbed mine. I’d definitely buy it again. My only complaint was that it needed more BBQ sauce to really bring the flavor together.
Next was the Chicken and Fries Box for $8.99. The fries had a great texture, crunchy and warm, even if they weren’t fresh out of the grease. The chicken tenders, however, tasted more like corn dogs, and the fries leaned on the greasy side. Not terrible, but not something I’d rush back for.
I also picked up the Chipotle Club Sandwich for $7.99. They didn’t skimp on the meat, which I appreciated, but the sandwich itself was small. The bread was a little wet, though not enough to ruin it. Overall, it was decent but not memorable.
Then came the Red Velvet Whoopie Pie for $3.19. This one was a miss. It didn’t taste like red velvet at all. The cake looked more like an oatmeal cookie, and the flavor reminded me of candy corn. They filled it with a ton of icing, but even that couldn’t save it.
As a pecan lover, the Pecan Bar for $2.99 was disappointing. The crust was crumbly and dry, and the flavor leaned more toward pumpkin pie with pecans. I wouldn’t buy it again.
Lastly, I tried one of their chocolate chip cookies for $0.99. It was soft, but nothing special. I wouldn’t repurchase.
So, is Buc-ee’s one of those places where we spend money for no real reason other than the thrill of it? Maybe. Don’t get me wrong, I’m already ready to go back and try more things. There’s something about Buc-ee’s that keeps you curious. But unlike some people, I set a budget and stick to it.
