What I Need For A Maternity Session

"What should I wear", is the question I am mostly asked.  When selecting what to wear, can be a hard decision for any photo session, and adding a belly with raging hormones, can make it feel maybe a little more harder. You will one day look back on your pictures, so when you choose your wardrobe, hair, and makeup, make sure it is flattering and it captures your vision.

Maternity designers and boutiques owners have really fueled the styles and have given soon to be moms empowerment to want to show off their bellies.

If you plan to purchase something to wear for your maternity session, remember your bump is the center of attention for your photos.

You may choose to show your belly, I would recommend bandeau bras, bikini tops, or fabric that you may use to cover your cleavage, as for covering your bottom with maybe a tutu, blue jeans, full skirt or fabric, transformed into a skirt.

If you are deciding to opt out on showing your belly, be sure to select something that reflects your personality.  You may select a long gown, a short dress, or a comfortable top.  It really determines the season or weather. Don't be afraid to have color in your wardrobe, but if you plan on having some of your photos black and white, I would be careful with using awkward patterns, and stick with solid colors.

When you plan to do photos you may want to splurge on getting your toes painted, and hire "professional" hair and makeup artists .You want to make sure your nails are done, clean, and don't have peeling fingernail polish.  Many women may have pregnancy acne or discoloration of the skin, and hiring someone that specialize in disguising blemishes and skin tones is worth the extra money.

Many of you may order online, to find something different, and if you choose to go this route, be sure to order early to make sure you have time to try it on, make sure everything fits, and you're comfortable.

If you are considering on including baby props or having a unique theme, make sure your wardrobe fit your idea. Maybe you want to get your baby bump painted with henna, if that is your plan make sure, the painting fit your whole session theme. If you plan to incorporate jewelry on, make sure it's not to much and distracting. Your hands and arms are a big part in maternity photos, so be sure to limit your bracelets and rings. You don't want your friends and family to be overwhelmed at the attention towards the jewelry and not your stomach.

Lets not forget daddy and the siblings, make sure their wardrobe is matching with the theme or colors of what you have on.

Lastly, make sure you wear a smile and come with a good attitude. You will enjoy the experience more when you are in a positive mood .
Congrats on your pregnancy!
