I’ve had Pike Road Coffee on my list ever since I came across a few videos bragging about how good their grits were. I wasn’t a believer at first grits are one of those things that a lot of people and restaurants just can’t seem to get right. But let me pause and start with the visit itself.
Driving there, you really have to pay attention, or you’ll pass right by it. And be extra careful turning in if you have a low car like I do, there’s a pretty big hole in the road. My first impression of the building was that it looked different, but in a good way. It has this oddly beautiful charm to it. I was greeted by two young ladies, and the one who took my order, was such a sweetie.
I ordered a Deli Baguette with a side of their creamy heirloom grits ($12), The Greg Breakfast Sandwich with cheddar cheese, Conecuh sausage, and scrambled eggs on a croissant ($9.50), and a slice of lemon pound cake ($5). My total came out to $28.52 including tax, which honestly felt reasonable in today’s economy.
My food came out in under 10 minutes amazing. After seeing so many complaints about long wait times, I was nervous, but there was no line and it wasn’t busy at all. Since I’m not a fan of crowds, this was perfect for me.
Before I get into the food, I have to brag on the staff. These are the type of people you leave in charge and never have to worry about your business. I truly believe a business is only as good as the people working there. Everyone including the cook who brought my food to the front was professional and kind. Both Chloe and Zoe were patient and offered great suggestions. Mera, who bagged my items, even asked how my day was going. Small gestures like that go a long way with me, and I always try to acknowledge employees who go the extra mile.
Now, let’s talk about the food because I know that’s what you’re waiting for.
The grits? A 10/10. Creamy, flavorful, and cooked exactly how I grew up eating them in my hometown with milk. Most restaurants fail miserably at grits, but these were perfect. The chef deserves a tip just for that.
My biggest fear with sandwiches is hard, un‑edible bread. But everything on the Deli Baguette was fresh. The bread was a little cold, probably from the fridge, but still soft and enjoyable. It made a great lunch.
The Greg Breakfast Sandwich was full, flavorful, and the croissant was soft as cotton. My only complaint is that it was a tad greasy, probably from butter. Still, it was a solid 10/10.
Now for the lemon pound cake. I’m big on desserts, so I had high hopes. The flavor was good, but the texture reminded me more of cornbread than cake. Not my favorite, but everyone has different preferences when it comes to cake texture. I still say try it your experience might be completely different.
So what’s my verdict?
The quietness of the location was a breath of fresh air. This place made me smile and honestly made my whole day. It felt like a little escape from the hustle and bustle. They sell different coffee drinks, pastries, and even coffee beans. I didn’t try any drinks this time, but I definitely will on my next visit.
Customer service: 20/10 Food: 8.5/10 Wait time: 10/10
The slight drop in the food rating wasn’t because the food wasn’t good—it absolutely was. The only reasons were small things: the lemon pound cake’s texture wasn’t my personal favorite, and the croissant on The Greg Sandwich was just a bit greasy, likely from butter. Neither issue ruined the meal at all, but I always try to be honest and fair in my reviews. Everything else was delicious, fresh, and clearly made with care.
I will definitely be going back, and I absolutely recommend giving them a try. If you visit, be sure to tell me about your experience, I love hearing your thoughts.
